Psalmist Pamela Johnson
What People are Saying
Pamela Johnson is one impassioned and charismatic performer. She writes, sings and performs with equal aplomb; but, what sets Pamela apart in the music industry is the texture of her voice. She has the same reedy quality as a clarinet while the edges of her voice can climb the scale like an alto saxophone.
Raised in a church-going family, Psalmist Pamela Johnson started singing in church at a very young age. Pamela’s voice matured with age as did her performance skills. The talent shows Pamela entered with the encouragement of a family friend, served as the foundation for her selection as the Vocalist of the Year at Denbigh High School.
Pamela’s debut CD, “Destiny Resurrected,” has been buzzed about since its release. The magic of this musical journey is the combination of producers, writing and musicians. Each contributing artist brings their own credentials from Bo-Ty Productions, Grammy certificate winning producers, to the highly acclaimed horn duo “Chops Horns,” who’ve recorded with Prince and Alicia Keys among others.
Psalmist Pamela Johnson’s contralto voice is a powerhouse 4.5 octave mezzo soprano with which she incorporates many of the vocal inflections she learned by studying the vocal gymnastics of Darryl Coley, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Phyllis Hyman. Her power is well controlled, evidenced by the longing sweetness in “Miss Your Face,” to the urban grit on “Warrior Woman.”
Pamela’s exciting and uplifting performances envelope her audience and make them want to praise with pumping fists or worship with upraised hands.
